In a tense cross-town rivalry match on Oct. 9, the Maize South Mavericks extended their winning streak to eight games with a 1-0 victory over the Maize Eagles.
The Mavericks entered the match riding a seven-game win streak, while the Eagles had won three straight. The tightly contested game remained scoreless until late in the second half, when Maize South senior Parker Vieyra scored the lone goal with 14 minutes remaining.
Maize South controlled much of the possession and kept consistent pressure on the Eagles’ defense. The Mavericks tallied more than 20 shots on goal, but the Eagles’ back line and goalkeeper Cooper Shaw
held firm until Vieyra’s breakthrough.
The win marks a key moment in the Mavericks’ season as they now hold an 11-1 record.
