The Wichita Jr. Barbarians rugby team kicked off their season with a strong performance against the St. James Thunders. The Barbarians won both the junior varsity and varsity matchups and will continue their season later this month.
Sevyn Howard, a junior at Maize High School who plays for the Barbarians, shared his thoughts on the lack of a rugby program at Maize schools. “I do think Maize should have rugby,” Howard said. “It’s a really fun sport to play and watch, but I don’t think our school would have the sport, just because football is more well-known in the U.S.”
