Sophomore Ava Kohlmeier throws her ball towards the lane. Kohlmeier shot a 346 series with an average of 115 on the day. Maize South's girls team placed sixth in the tournament.

Kinley Barker celebrates with her teammates and coach. Barker bowled a 474 series on Friday. Maize South's girls team placed sixth in the tournament.

Two-hander Kaylee Boucher throws a shot down the lane and strikes. Boucher was a top ten bowler Friday and placed 8th overall with a 590 series. Maize South's girls team placed sixth in the tournament.

Freshman Kiley Gonzales throws her ball down the lane towards the pins. Gonzales had the highest pin total at the end of her three individual games for Maize. The Eagles placed 29th overall in the tournament.

First year bowler sophomore Emily Benninga rolls her ball down the lane. Benninga shot a 256 series Friday morning. The Eagles placed 29th overall in the tournament.

Senior Emma Kohl shoots a spare in the tenth frame of a baker's game. Kohl had a 305 series with an average of 102. The Eagles placed 29th overall in the tournament.

Junior Tory Homan slams down a dunk over a Goddard defender. Maize South defeated the Goddard Lions on Tuesday night and increased their record to 10-2 with a 63-30 win.

Junior point guard Sammy Dresie puts up a layup. “My mindset for basketball has been just doing my job on the team,” said Dresie. Maize South defeated the Goddard Lions 63-30 Tuesday night.

When asked what the best part of the season was, Kates said, “The best part has been how the team has been able to connect to each other and become more of a family.” Maize South defeated the Goddard Lions 63-30 Tuesday night.

Senior Ana Garcia-Agulló waves the US flag in the student section. “The student section was really good and fun as always, and I love supporting the Mavs!” said Garcia-Agulló. Maize South’s student section theme was USA. The Mavericks defeated the Goddard Lions 63-30 Tuesday night.

Surrounded by four Goddard defenders, Sammy Dresie shoots a two-pointer. “To prepare for each game I listen to music and mentally prepare for the game,” said Dresie. Maize South defeated the Goddard Lions 63-30 Tuesday night.

Senior Jaylen Maze shoots a three-pointer late in the game to increase the Mavericks lead over the Lions. “Me and the team are off to a good start, 10-2 right now only losing to Hutch but we plan on playing at a more explosive and player led level throughout the rest of this journey to state. We have potential to be state champs now we just have to execute on/off the court and let the chips fall where they may.” Maize South defeated the Goddard Lions 63-30 Tuesday night.

Junior Darius Felton goes up to dunk against a Lions defender but gets fouled. Felton ended up making both of the free throws after the foul. Maize South defeated the Goddard Lions 63-30 Tuesday night.

Senior Isaiah Atwater jumps up to put up a shot and is fouled mid-air. “We are just trying to get better everyday so we can continue to win and hopefully be playing our best when the playoffs come around,” said Atwater. Maize South defeated the Goddard Lions 63-30 Tuesday night.

Senior point guard Isaiah Atwater brings the ball up the court for the Mavericks second possession of the game. Despite having such a high points per game average, Atwater also averages 4.6 assists per game. Maize South defeated the Goddard Lions 63-30 Tuesday night.

Senior Jaxon Booth drives the ball down the court at the start of the second half. Throughout this season, Booth has averaged 8.0 points per game for the Eagles. Maize fell short in their loss to Hutchinson 46-61 on Tuesday night.

Maize sophomore Bryson Hayes stiff arms a Hutchinson defender into the ground. Hayes then spun out of another tackle and ran the ball into the endzone for an Eagles’ touchdown, making the score 14-7.

Junior Emmerson Campbell hypes up the junior powderpuff team before they take on the seniors. The seniors defeated the juniors 31-0 last Wednesday.

USD 266 Superintendent Dr. Greer and MSHS Principal Ms. Sailor lead the Maize South homecoming parade. Dr. Greer joined USD 266 as the superintendent in early July.

Senior Gavin Powers walks in the Maize South homecoming parade. Powers has been playing trombone with the Maverick marching band for all four years of his high school career.

MSHS Junior Brock Ellis poses as a superhero for Maize South’s BPA club during the homecoming parade. When asked what he likes most about BPA, Ellis replied “BPA provides opportunities to develop real world skills like leadership, communication, and timeliness.”

Maize South’s Black Student Union marches through the homecoming parade. The BSU was formed in 2020, and they have created a mural within the high school.
