A group of students sit together on the bleachers waiting to receive their academic/sports awards. Between the scholarships and other recognition students got on the day, nearly X amount of money was awarded in total.

David Hickerson and David Nash discuss the upcoming changes in the school district in the Maize South hallway during EnCor. Hickerson established MavTime to give students an additional relaxed period during their day, which has been reverted back into EnCor to fit the COVID-19 precautions. Teri Larson, an English teacher at Maize South, said "Students loved it. Unfortunately, due to COVID, MavTime had to be changed back to EnCor because of social distancing."

The butterfly garden is closed for the winter at Botanica, but visitors can still see scenes of butterflies and flowers while walking on the paths through the gardens. Purple and blue butterflies can be found through the whole path, as well as other insects and flowers.

The girls on the Maize South cross country team proudly hold their well-deserved trophy from the state championship. This is the first year they have won the KSHAA State Championship since 2016 for their third state championship in eleven years at Maize South.

Proudly holding their 5A state trophy, the girls on the Maize South cross country team smile under their masks on stage to receive praise for their win. Amber Eichkorn, the Maize South cross country coach, celebrated the victory with the team on stage as they accepted the award.

After winning the KSHAA State Championship last Saturday, the girls cross country team holds up their trophy for the hundreds of spectators in Augusta. The girls won by one point against Bishop Carroll on the day with 58 points total.

After placing in the top 20, William Schaeffer (11), stands on stage with his competitors. Schaffer was the only runner on the boys team to place in the top twenty and helped earn the boys cross country team a sixth place finish with 160 total points.

After finishing the four mile course, Alexa Rios (12) collapses on the grass of exhaustion. She finished the race with an average speed of 6:12 a mile to grab 5th place overall in the girls 5A division.

Alexa Rios (12) pushes through the race as she nears the halfway point of the race. Rios finished in fifth place with a time of 19:19.

Running alongside the other cross country runners from around Kansas, Alexa Rios (12), runs a fast as attemps to get ahead of her competition. Her efforts, combined with the rest of the team, resulted in a 1:39:55 combined total time, twenty seconds less than runners up, Bishop Carroll.

The girls on the Maize South cross country team come in for a hug before their 4 mile race for the State Championship last Saturday. The girls won the state championship, three of the runners placing in the top twenty overall on the day.

Before starting their race, the Maize South boys cross country team prepares to run a four mile course for the KSHAA State Championship. The boys finished the race in sixth place, Austin Schaffer finishing in the top 20.

Just passing the halfway point of their 5K, runners Elijah Clark (12) and Austin Schaeffer (11) lead the way for their team. Schaeffer would take 1st place in the race with a time of 17:05.
