ICT Flight Show Choir sang and danced their way into judge’s hearts at competition, March 5, landing second place at finals. After hours of preparation, Flight traveled to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, for the last competition of the year on March 4. The next morning, Flight members put together their costumes and makeup, then members headed to competition.

“Before the show I was feeling really anxious and nervous but also extremely excited,” senior Sawyer Barragan said.

Every show choir has twenty minutes to warm up in a designated room. Once warm-ups are over, the choir heads to stage to perform, then they head on to critiques. Critiques last thirty minutes and a judge gives them feedback on what they need to improve on.

“Our critique judge was especially helpful this time,” senior Tatum Nevins said. “He said that he was so touched by our reputation of genuineness and heart … His insight really helped us during finals and ended up consequently moving us up a few places from our position in preliminaries.”

For sophomore Alanis Balza these performances meant something more. Balza broke her ankle recently making it harder for her to perform. She still was determined to get on stage and perform.

“After competition, ” Balza said, “a woman came up to me and she [said] ‘you are so strong because I have never seen someone that’s injured still perform with their choir and look as happy as you did.’”

This meant a lot to her because Balza was having a tough time coping with the injury in the beginning. This show was special for not only special for Balza, but the entire Show Choir.

“The show we had for this year was really special,” Barragan said. “It was us representing what flight is. How we can all just come together from 16 schools and we can all make something so beautiful as the show we did.”
