Social Studies teacher Kevin Roulhac was nominated for the 2013-2014 Horizon Award. The district superintendent and building principal selects first-year teachers as nominees from their district to compete for the statewide award.
The applications were submitted in October of 2012. The Horizon Award requires nominees to write an essay about themselves and why they should win the reward.
Roulhac was one of two Maize teachers selected by the district. The state selects 32 first-year teachers throughout the state of Kansas. Nominees are teachers pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. The winner will be announced by the state in February 2014.
“I was excited, I wanted to win something for the Maize school district,” Roulhac said.
Roulhac is a track and field coach and foreign investment club advisor. He also coaches 8th grade basketball at Maize Middle School.
