Cannizzo to leave Maize

julie

Assistant principal Julie Cannizzo will move to the Goddard school district next year as assistant superintendent of academic affairs. The announcement of her departure was made during a staff meeting Tuesday morning.

“It’s going to be a whole new challenge,” Cannizzo said. “It’s at a whole new level, the district level and not the building level. It deals with curriculum instructions and assessments, which I don’t get a lot of those types of things here at Maize High School.”

Cannizzo, a seven-year Maize veteran, started teaching math to middle schoolers in the Wichita school district. She said she applied and interviewed for the Goddard job and was told Wednesday that she was accepted. She wasn’t allowed to release the information until Tuesday.

“I’ll miss the people [the most],” Cannizzo said of leaving Maize. “It’s just a great place to work. It’s been bittersweet. I’ve been very sad that I’ll leave Maize, but I’ve been excited about the new opportunity in Goddard. It’s hard to leave.”
