Chris Grill to be new basketball coach

Math teacher Chris Grill has been named the new basketball coach at Maize. Grill was previously at Garden Plain High School, which had a 10-10 record this season, losing in the sub-state finals. Grill has also coached at Maize, leading the basketball team to the 6A state tournament in the 2009-10 season.

“We like how he coaches and how he works with young kids,” athletic director Eric Wolgast said. “He’ll have a very positive influence on our basketball players.”

Though the loss of coach Chris Davis will be felt immensely by the players, Wolgast believes that Grill will continue the recent success of the basketball team.

“I think that he will continue where coach Davis left off,” said Wolgast. “When he (Grill) was here earlier, his teams always played really hard.”
