The Maize Career Academy offers a variety of career-based classes designed to prepare students for future education and employment.
Maize South High School student Corbin Wise said his experience in aviation helped him discover his career goals.
“I fell in love with aviation really quickly,” Wise said. “I loved it so much that I was like, ‘Hey, I want to be an airline pilot. This is really cool.’ I would recommend coming in with an open mind and being prepared to take on some hard and challenging topics, but in the end, it pays off a lot, and it’s the best career field in the world.”
Students at the academy gain hands-on experience in their chosen fields and have opportunities to take collegiate-level courses that translate into real-world skills.
Maize High School student Hailey Blurton said her involvement in broadcasting, media and yearbook classes helped prepare her for future opportunities.
“I’ve taken all the broadcasting classes and yearbook classes — media classes, all of them — throughout my high school career,” Blurton said. “The MCA just has really good options, really good resources and really good teachers. All of the equipment we have is super high-tech, and that’s prepared me in so many ways. We also have so many connections around Maize and the community that have helped me gain experience, and it’s just a really fun class.”
The Maize Career Academy’s state-of-the-art facility allows students to develop skills in industry-quality environments.
“The MCA helped me prepare because it’s more like an industry setting,” said Ricky Cabrera, a Maize High School student. “It’s not just like a home kitchen, like it is in Culinary Essentials. That really helps for the future because you’ll know your way around.”
The Maize Career Academy continues its mission of preparing USD 266 students for both the workforce and higher education.
