Mavs dominate, advance to 5A final four

Top ranked Maize South crushed Salina South 5-0, inching closer to a possible 5A state championship.

The Maize South boys soccer team defeated Salina South on Tuesday night to advance to the Class 5A state semifinals.

Captain Skylur Staley led the Mavericks with two goals, while junior Adolfo Acosta added two goals and an assist in the dominating win.

The victory sends Maize South to the semifinals for a chance at a third consecutive state championship appearance. The Mavericks will play at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Maize South.
