After 42 years of teaching, industrial arts teacher Don Butler will retire at the end of the school year.
Butler is 65 years old and stated that he felt now would be an appropriate time. His wife wishes to travel, leading to their decision to make this year his last year at Maize.
According to Butler this year has been an enjoyable, final year despite all his busy classes.
“I like showing my students things they’ve never seen before and teaching them life lessons,” Butler said.
While he will no longer have a job, Butler plans to spend a lot of his time volunteering or fixing mechanical problems for others around town.
“It’s scary. I don’t want to sit and be complacent,” Butler said.
