Energy drinks among teens are one of the biggest rising trends. When asked, 48% of maize students said they drink energy drinks for the caffeine, whereas 28% replied they drink them for the overall pleasant taste.
At Maize High School Alani Nu is the current drink of choice. “ I started with Monster but I’ve tried things like Celsius and Red Bull with them never tasting right, So I found out about Alani and now I’m between Alauni and Monster,” freshman Margarett McDaniel said.
Compared to competing energy drinks Alani Nu is quite caffeine-dense with 200 milligrams of caffeine in a 12-ounce can, most similar to a Celsius energy drink. The main marketing technique Alani Nu uses is its flashy can designs, bright colors, and appealing variety of flavors.
Due to the drink’s popularity, students at Maize High are limited to purchasing one Alani Nu a day. Although Alani Nu is one of the largest energy drinks at the time being, the majority of the Maize student population prefers other energy drinks.
The main benefits of energy drinks are the caffeine content and their richness of vitamins such as B12. Although there are some downsides, such as fidgeting, stomach pain, and anxiety.
Overall students at Maize High have a positive relationship with energy drinks due to them being the easiest available pick-me-up.
