Students can now connect personal devices to the school’s wireless network for Internet access.
Each student and teacher may connect one device to the server at a time, technology staffers Stephanie White and John Cramer said. Students can use the network to access the internet, but will not have access to district drives and printers.
Cramer said students should keep in mind that anything they view on the Internet goes through the school filter as if the student were on a school computer.
The technology director for the Maize district, Ramon Mosate, said he recently expanded the amount of bandwidth the district had available. Before the expansion, the Internet of the district did not have enough bandwidth to hold every student’s devices without becoming slow and unusable.
Mosate also added that the current Internet is a test.
“If the Internet is stable and works, we’ll keep it. If it still uses too much bandwidth, we’d have to take it down again,” Mosate said.
