South hosted a new fundraiser this year called ‘Mavs Care Week’ and the school was able to raise $2,400 for families less fortunate. The pep assembly on Dec. 8 also held a pie in the face for when the school reached certain donation tiers by the end of the week.

By spending a dollar, students had the chance to purchase a candy cane to send to one another; additionally, students could purchase a snowflake to write their name on for the chance to pie teachers and certain administration.  

Students were dismissed at 2:10 p.m. and allowed to go down to the gymnasium to watch the selected students pie the teachers and administration. The pep assembly also had multiple fun activities for a lot of the students to participate in and ended with the pieing.

The pieing started with students helping set up the chairs and tarps. After all the other activities, the teachers and the students that were participating in the pieing were introduced and brought down to the court.

The students who pied teachers were:

Damian Fletcher, Saxton Bruner, London Pebbler, Braden Pfeifer, Kale Smith, Olivia Stingo, Jack Wagner, Grant Bumgardner, Nathan Truong, and Morgan Wilson.

The teachers who got pied were:

Mr. Melichar, Mrs. Brown, Mr. Vinduska, Mr. Pfeifer, Mr. Fink, Mr. Heath, Mr. Razz, Mr. Klein, Mrs. Klock, and Mr. Shelley.

A majority of students wouldn’t mind having more engaging pep assemblies with more interesting, better activities to do; however, these assemblies would require for the school to start planning more fundraisers in the future. Although, many students are enthusiastic to have more fundraisers for South for the potential to help others less fortunate.  

“I think we should do more fundraisers like the Mav Care Week,” Carly McNerney, 12, said. “It gives students a chance to help families and people in the community.”
