At the beginning of the 2017-18 school year the Maize School District implemented new parking rules that outlawed all pull-through parking.

“There is no specific time parking is checked,” James Wiggins, School Resource Officer, said. “The new rules were included in this year’s version of the agenda.”

The district-wide rule shows that no matter what campus students park at, they can be ticketed for parking incorrectly.

“All students and staff have been affected the moment the laws were placed,” Wiggins said.

Setting the law in place is to make sure school resource officers can quickly check to make sure vehicles are properly marked.

“Allowing school resource officers to check the parking tags is just to make sure all vehicles are marked appropriately,” Dave Hickerson, principal, said.

Students reacted in an unexpected way during the release of the information.

“Some of the students were upset because they were not informed of the change,” Hickerson said. “The change was made in the student handbook, but as a school we did not do a good job of making the communication clear to our students at the start of the school year. ”
