This past weekend South’s bowling team attended regionals, the tournament that would determine if they moved on to state.
“This was the last tournament of the season,” Sydney Doyle, 11, said. “For this season my overall goal was to place at league. I placed 7th.”
After their final tournament, there was a bittersweet ending. South took all of their varsity members to the regional tournament. Some bowlers were just a couple pins from making it to state.
“I placed 11 overall and missed going to state by four pins,” Doyle said.
Matt Giesler, 11, was the only bowler to score high enough to move on to state.
“My regional score was 599,” Giesler said. “My series went 176, 217 and 206.”
Giesler will go to state on Mar. 2 at North Rock Lanes.
“I feel pretty confident in myself and in my coach that I am going to state,” Giesler said. “I should be just fine.”
