Despite canceling the original musical Thoroughly Modern Millie, the choirs kept their heads up and moved forward with the production of the new musical, All Shook Up.
“I am both disappointed and not disappointed in the fact that we are not performing Thoroughly Modern Millie,” Aaron Weatherbie, choir, said. “At some point in the future we will perform that show, but for the spot we are in right now I think that All Shook Up will be best for us.”
All of the students and Weatherbie are excited about the change in musicals because a lot of the students said that they did not know very much about Thoroughly Modern Millie. The chosen musical is based around the times of Elvis Presley.
“My favorite part about All Shook Up is that it will be long, fun and I think that everyone will get a good part,” Jonah Clevenger, 9, said.
Many of the choir students are excited to try out for the different parts that All Shook Up has to offer. The choirs have already begun auditioning.
“I am auditioning for the part of Loraine,” Maranda Wagner, 12, said. “I think it is really going to be hard having the characters in all different classes when we try to rehearse during the school day.”
The choir students began practicing the songs for All Shook Up on Jan. 9. This musical plans to capture the audience with it’s popular and upbeat songs.
“Our songs are based on Elvis Presley,” Weatherbie said. “So there will be songs like I Can’t Help Falling In Love With You, All Shook Up, Ain’t Nothin’ But A Hound Dog, Jailhouse Rock and Heartbreak Hotel.”
Keeping a positive attitude about the musical switch has not been difficult for the choir students.
“I believe that it is going to be really exciting for the parents to have something based around someone who was famous when they were kids,” Nathan Truong, 11, said.
The show will take place March 2, 3 and 4 at 7:30 pm. See Aaron Weatherbie in the music hall for more information regarding any extra details about the musical.
