Maize participates in third service day

Maize High brought the community of Maize together to do all kinds of community service activities, ranging from cleaning the solar panels to handing out care packages to the homeless.

“Service day is important because it is a time for all of us to come together as a community and give back to them [the community],” senior Colton Crockett said.

Senior Sydnie Winter said that this day of giving back brings her joy.

“It brought an enormous smile to my face when I saw how happy the homeless people were when I gave them a care package,” Winter said.

Crockett chose to go to the elementary school to spend time with the fifth graders. They played math games and went out to recess.

“I chose the elementary school because I love tutoring and helping people,” he said. “This was the perfect opportunity to do so.”

Winter chose to go downtown to hand out care packages to the homeless.

“I liked hearing about people’s life stories and the experiences and challenges they’ve faced,” she said. “I feel like it brings us together as a whole community to know the challenges we have all faced and be able to put ourselves in each others shoes.”
