Senior Drew Bott passes the ball. The soccer team won the first round game of the Titan Classic Tournament with the help of a last-second goal.

The Maize High Boys Soccer team played a game against Garden City on Monday. The game was very intense while both teams were going back and forth. The game was coming down to the last few seconds when junior Max Shea scored a last second goal for the team.

“While Maize was down by one point in the last few minutes, the team was trying hard to score a goal,” Shea sad. “At the very end it was nice for [us to finally score a goal.] It was a great feeling.”

When Shea scored the goal, he stated that he spaced out at the time.

“I don’t remember a lot, I scored then the team rushed at me,” Shea said.

Another teammate freshman Grant Wessley helped the team in many ways.

“In penalties I did good and helped win the game for us,” Wessley said.

Wessley was on the field during the last second goal and expressed his feelings about it.

“It felt pretty awesome because I’m a freshman playing varsity so I was really happy [to win,]” Wessley said.

The soccer team will play again on Wednesday September 4th at 6 p.m. against Kapaun Mt. Carmel at Wichita South High School.
