Maize cheerleaders prepare for the new season by selling Eagle gear. The event occurred on Monday, Aug. 19.

The Maize cheer Trunk Show is the highlight for many Eagle moms, relatives and Maize fanatics. Cheer has hosted the Trunk Show for the past five years. The show shares many new designs and gear to celebrate the upcoming season of athletics.

“You can’t tell anyone who you are if you aren’t wearing eagle gear,” cheer coach Lori Clinton said. “I love seeing all the happy faces and everybody that is so excited to get new Maize gear and to show their Eagle pride.”

Just BeCuz Trunk Shows takes their designs on the road, traveling from school to school. They donate 20% back to Maize Spirit Club. Cheerleading is the only sport giving everything out of their pocket for the betterment of other groups. For instance they make huge spirit banners, decorate the locker rooms during each homecoming, provide snacks and goody bags for each team and club and most importantly they bring the spirit.

“I love the Trunk Show,” senior Makenzie Owings said. “It helps cheer get a little extra help right before we start spending money to help motivate the other teams.”

The cheer team collaborates with the Maize Middle School cheer team to make this event happen. The two teams share the profits and benefit from the event.

“Any time we do something together it just feels like a big family party,” Clinton said.

The trunk show is more than just a fundraiser for the cheerleaders, it is an opportunity for the community to come together and support all of Maize.
