Annual Extravaganza takes place tomorrow

Sports teams and clubs alike will be kicking off the school year at the Fall Sports Extravaganza.

Many students come to support athletics in scrimmages, see what the booths have to offer, or to attend the firework show and dance.

Extravaganza is sponsored by the Booster Club, who sets up the event. Students will be able to find barbeque pork sandwiches this year, as well as regular concessions.

Groups will set up booths to give information about their club or team, and often offer some kind of service as an opportunity to raise money. Sports teams will have scrimmages, and afterwards there will be a dance sponsored by the cheer squad.

“It’s their final practice kickoff before they play another team,” Booster Club member Jayme Buzard. “It helps to be able to do that in front of an audience. It’s also good to let band, cheer, dance, and color guard perform.”

Athletic Director Eric Wolgast organized the teams and rosters for their introductions.

“It’s a great opportunity to meet the teams that are participating this fall,” Wolgast said. “Lots of clubs and organizations have booths where they sell raffles and play games. Then we’ll have a DJ there playing music. There’s fireworks when it gets dark, and of course, there’s the dance afterwards.”

There are many games geared towards younger kids, and students are encouraged to bring along younger siblings.

“Just come out,” Wolgast said. “The weather is supposed to be nice. It should be a lot of fun.”

Extravaganza begins at 5 p.m. and ends at 10:30 p.m. with a dance. The event is hosted by Maize Booster Club.
