Sophomore Hannah Soderstrom has just completed her final chemotherapy on February 25, 2019. Cancer has been a 28 month battle, but lucky for Soderstrom, she has the chance to successfully say, “I beat cancer.” On October 14, 2016, Soderstrom was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Until now Soderstrom goes in for antibiotic pills and monthly checkups.

“I’m honestly still in shock,” Soderstrom said. “It doesn’t feel real to be done with something that had just become my life.”

To say goodbye to Cancer, Soderstrom had all of her family to come out for her last chemotherapy.

“Ringing the bell to say I finished was so satisfying,” she said. “It was like I could see the light after two years.”

Throughout every battle everyone needs a person in their corner, to help cheer when the going gets tough. Life long friend, Senior Janna Busker has been that person for Soderstrom.

“Janna [Busker] helped me find my faith again when I started going down a dark path,” said Soderstrom. “She made me realize what I went through made me so much stronger than before.”

Soderstrom has always impacted Busker with her bright smile and happy go lucky self. According to Busker, Soderstrom has helped her just as much.

“Hannah is someone who is there for me to talk to and always found solutions to my problems,” Busker said. “I think we both helped each other out.” Busker and Soderstrom often meet up for coffee and bible studies.

When Busker found out her best friend was cancer free her heart soared with excitement.

“I knew she would kick cancers butt from the beginning,” Busker said. “It was just a matter of waiting for that long awaited day!”
