Studying Tips for Midterms

Piper Pinnetti, Reporter

It is days before spring break and everyone is excited to sleep in and have no homework to do. But before spring break students have to to midterms to test what has been taught during the first half of the semester.

Midterms allow students to show that they have learned the taught subjects and you understand it. These exams are important to study for so you can get the best grades you possibly can. If you have not already started studying for midterms, now is the time to start.

Discovering you learning style is the first step to studying. Are you a visual learner? Do you understand subjects better taking notes or doing activities? Some ways to study can be the use of flash cards to constantly quiz yourself. Reading about the topic can help, go to the library or look up websites online. If reading is not your thing try watching videos that demonstrate what you have learned and take notes from it. Make association as well. For instance, Toulouse has the nickname of the Pink City and they are right next to the Pyrenees Mountains, both start with a P and can help you remember simple things like where two places are located.

As far as actually motivating yourself to do it, having alarms set to remind you to study or change the subject you are studying is a good way to stay on a schedule to make sure you study. Study buddies can motivate you to frequently study and they can also help you while studying.

Staying on task can be hard while studying. If you look away from the device you are reading this on I can grantee there is a distraction waiting for you. To prevent getting distracted while studying, turn off your phone or put it in another room. Be sure to have everything you need to study already out so you dont have to search and waste more time or find something else to do.

Simple tricks like taking breaks every 20 minutes or breaking down your sessions can help, too. This way you can relax and you do not get bored as fast and give up. Background music like classical music can help fill that weird silence in the room while also helping you stay on track,

Lastly, even though I know it is hard as a high school student, get a good amount of sleep. If you are ready a book or notes with your mind thinking about your bed and your eyes are half closed, then you wont do good studying.
