Spring sports have started up this week for Maize athletes, this includes: boys tennis, girls swim, girls soccer, track and field, softball and baseball.

Student athletes are eager to start playing. Many say they are also excited about what this upcoming season will hold.

“The bonding that goes on with the guys I play with and being able to succeed and see all of our hard work and practice we put in pay off,” sophomore baseball player Brock McCollough said.

Students aren’t just looking forward to competing and hanging out with friends. Many students said they are excited to put in the work and making this their best season overall such as senior Jo Besse.

“I’m getting better and better each and every day,” Besse said.

Senior soccer player Megan Fabrizius said she is also focusing on her season and sets new goals for herself and her teammates every year. Last year the soccer team took third in state, and now she’s looking to set the bar even higher.

“My biggest goal is to get to state together again this year and hopefully not get third,” Fabrizius said.

Maize athletes said they are looking forward to a great spring season to finish out the school year.
