Student breaks leg at homecoming parade

Friday’s homecoming parade turned awry when sophomore Jacob Schultz fell off his float.

According to Schultz’s friend sophomore Brady Sanders, Schultz was jokingly asking people to marry him by getting down on one knee with candy in his hand. As he was jumping off the float, Schultz fell and his leg got caught under the trailer’s tire.

Students on the float thought they had gone over a speed bump at first but once Schultz stood up hopping on one leg, they knew something bad happened.

“I thought he was joking because he was kind of laughing, but he went up to the driver of the trailer and I could see he was in pain,” Sanders said.

He had broken his leg in multiple places.

“Jacob just made fun of himself after the accident. He always gets hurt in the weirdest ways,” sophomore Andrew Wilcox said. “He’d be the one to fall off a ferris wheel and only break an ankle.”

Schultz went into surgery Friday night and is recovering.
