A water bottle refilling station is one of the many new features in the Career and Technical Education (CTE) building. Senior Lexi Cannizzo uses these new stations to fill up her water bottles and said she thinks they’re better than water fountains.

“You can taste the metal in the [regular] water fountains,” Cannizzo said. “Then when you get filtered water, it not only tastes better, but [the station] also gives you the number of water bottles you’re saving.”

As senior vice president of StuCo, Cannizzo has talked to Principal Chris Botts about adding more water bottle refilling stations to Maize High School.

“[StuCo] talked to Botts about putting them in Maize High and not just the CTE,” she said. “He said that he’s working on it.”

Botts confirmed that water bottle refilling stations will be ordered and installed at Maize High School.

“I would anticipate having them ready for use at the beginning of the 18-19 school year, if not sooner,” Botts said.

Maize South High installed the water bottles already. Botts said this is because of budgetary reasons.

“Each school has autonomy with their budgets,” Botts said. “We have not had the funds to get them in the past. This year, we are able to spend down some of our capital outlay monies and this is on the list of things to purchase.”

Cannizzo said the water bottle refilling stations are not only beneficial to the students at Maize High but also to the environment.

“People will become more aware of how they’re actually helping,” she said. “Instead of buying more water bottles just refilling the same one.”
