The Maize band held their 2017 holiday concert on Monday December 11th.

They played a total of ten songs between the Jazz Band, Concert Band and Symphonic Band.

As soon as marching band season ended, they starting working on music for this concert.

“We worked on the music for approximately seven weeks, ” Sophomore Bethany Tschosik said. “with personal time [at home] invested as well.”

They played many classic holiday songs including ‘Santa Clause is Coming to Town’ and ‘Nutcracker Suite’. Some students said these classics weren’t always the band students favorite to play.

“My favorite song was ‘Ave Maria’,” Senior Jack Carver said, “just because it ended up sounding really nice. It was a beautiful, lyrical piece.”

Band teaches new music and skills and can sometimes be frustrating, but it also brings friendships.

“The friendships I’ve made are amazing.” Tschosik said, “It’s like having a second family who understands the struggles.”

The band will be playing at the SCKMEA convention this year. The Symphonic band will be one of three bands in Kansas playing at Century ll based on their audition tape from last year.

“That’s exciting because that’s never a thing we’ve done before,” Carver said.
