On Feb. 16-17, there were several students absent from school due to the State Business Professionals of America (BPA) competition. There were 67 students from South participating in various events related to business. These ranged from desktop publishing to a prepared speech. They also took tests called “opens” that tesedt their current knowledge on specifics subjects.

“This is my first year in BPA,” Macy Allred, 10, said. “And I will be competing in keyboarding productions and news broadcast team.”

In addition to preparing for State, BPA has been making money by selling Val-O-Grams courtesy of the school store. Over the past few weeks students and staff have had the availability to buy a bottle of Crush, a carnation, or an assortment of candy for their Valentine. All of these were delivered by BPA members during encor on Feb. 14.

“I was one of the members who organized and delivered the valentines,” Ali Mapes, 12, said. “And the clear favorite was the Candy-O-Gram.”

This valentine sale supported the BPA members by gaining money for State and Nationals.
