With a potential ice storm outside, sophomore Caleb Grill was hot in Koch Arena on Saturday evening.

After suffering a difficult loss to Salina Central on Jan. 13 of 68-46, the boys entered the tournament with a 6-2 record.

The Eagles faced Heights with an equal 6-2 record at the mid-season basketball tournament at Wichita State University’s Koch Arena.

During the first quarter, Grill was on fire as he scored all 19 points for the Eagles with Heights at 23 points. At halftime, Heights was in the lead 40-34.

The rhythm remained steady with Heights leading at the end of the third quarter 60-53. Getting the ball within the arc appeared to be difficult for the Eagles with over half the attempts taken outside the arc.

The Eagles soared a little closer in the last quarter with a 9 point difference to end the game with a loss to Heights, 75-66.

Grill scored a game high total of 27 points and 7 three-pointers. Senior Grant Bugbee had 14 points, senior Tyson Love had 10 and junior Dalyn Johnson had 8.

“I thought we did alright as a team. We didn’t have our worst night but, we didn’t have our best night. Individually I thought I did good but I could’ve done better,” Caleb Grill said.

The 7-3 Eagles will travel to McPherson on Thursday for tournament action against Mill Valley.
