Protest at Derby High unifies community

January 12, 2017

About 150 students and community members stood in front of Derby High School Wednesday to stand in support of a transgender student.

The Derby High student publication staff reported there were no security issues. The supporters were there to advocate for the student and the LGBTQ community.

A Topeka church was protesting transgender student Tyler Krayer, who was named Hollyball King in December.  Five members of  Westboro Baptist Church stood at the corner of Rock and James protesting.

“They are harassing a minor and it’s wrong,” Derby sophomore Baylee Bristow told the Panther’s Tale. “They tagged him (Krayer) on Twitter and have started to single him out because he won Hollyball king.”
