The fire alarms went off unplanned causing confusion this morning before school started. This event made students evacuate the school and the fire department show up. The cause of this was not a fire but a buildup of dust.

“It was just a dust detector in the small gym and it just got a bunch of dust in there,” head custodian Garrett Wiebe said. “It’s an infrared beam so when it gets interrupted by anything thick like dust or smoke it’ll set the alarm off.”

After a few minutes of standing outside the students were let back into the building after the administration figured out the cause of the alarms.

“The dust comes from the small gym and the big gym and everything collects in that room so when they kicked the the unit on, it stirred a bunch of dust up,” Wiebe said.
