Everybody has a story: Katelyn Catron
October 6, 2016
Eitor’s note: This is a series of stories that will spotlight Maize students chosen at random. The idea comes from reporter Steve Hartman’s series formerly broadcast on CBS News.
Freshman Katelyn Catron found her passion for drawing in seventh grade when she took Art I.
“I just like doing basic drawing, just in pencil,” Catron said. Catron also said that drawing helps her relieve stress caused by school.
She is currently taking Art I with Terry Bussart. Right now they are making gargoyles out of different animals. Her gargoyle is a mix between an elephant and a tiger. Her favorite project so far this year was one of her eight week sketchbook drawings.
“The one that I did seemed pretty cool.” She also said, “It was kinda like a paisley looking thing with like different lines.”
Catron said that her favorite part about being in art classes is getting to meet new people and creating different art projects. Her favorite memory from art class last year was when her clay pot received second place in the school art show. She said her clay pot was painted in bright colors, shaped like a base, and had “Brighten Your Day” written on it.
Besides art, Catron also enjoys listening to music and baking. She likes baking cookies and sweet treats.
“It’s fun to do [baking] and I like to eat food,” Catron said.
