Inquiry into President Trump’s involvement with Ukraine and the investigation into Biden’s son’s past began this Monday. The ultimate goal of the Democrats is to impeach the President for abusing his power to undermine his rivals.

The inquiry includes subpoenas for official documents such as tax returns, phone calls, etc, as well as testimonies from government officials and “whistleblowers.”

Call for inquiry began at the end of September when a telephone conversation between President Trump and Ukrainian President Zelesnkyy caused suspicion amongst the Democratic party for their possible interference and looking into presidential candidate Joe Biden.

Talk between the two countries raised questions of Trump’s intent, and whether he was abusing his power by withholding funds for military aid until Ukraine used their prosecutors against Hunter Biden, Joe Biden’s son. 

During Biden’s time spent as vice-president under Obama, the Ukraine had a prosecutor look into possible shady dealings within Biden’s son’s business. Under the request of Joe Biden, the investigation was dropped. 

Trump released the full transcript of the call against his lawyers counsel on Tuesday, September 24.  The Democrats have used the multiple mentionings of Biden and his son as incentive for impeachment. 

“There’s a lot of talk about Biden’s son, that Biden stopped the persecution and a lot of people want to find out about that so whatever you can do with the Attorney General would be great.” Trump said in the call. 

“I wanted to tell you about the prosecutor. First of all, I understand and I’m knowledgeable about the situation,” Zelenskyy replied. “Since we have won the absolute majority in our Parliament, the next prosecutor general will be 100% my person, my candidate, who will be approved by the parliament and will start as a new prosecutor in September.”

As far as the investigation goes for Biden’s son or Biden himself, no corrupt dealings have been found as of now.

Trump said about his possibility for impeachment, that he is “not at all concerned.” Democrats represent a majority of the house, which would allow them to further the impeachment process, bringing the case to the Senate for possible criminal proceedings against Trump. 

However, Republicans represent a majority of the Senate, and therefore would most likely vote to dismiss the case.

Political scientists and the public accounts of what this means for Trump has differed widely. While some believe this will hurt Trump’s reputation, others believe the publicity and Trump’s rhetoric toward “draining the swamp” will help his re-election process in 2020.
