The soccer team squeezed past Newton 5-3 on the road on Tuesday night.

Maize’s first defense of the number one overall ranking was closer than expected as Newton scored as many goals as Maize had allowed all season entering the match.

Maize’s normally stout defense faltered against the Railers, but the offense pulled through.

The Eagles improved to 8-0, as they prepare to enter the second half of the season.
