2016 prom queen candidates
April 6, 2016
The class of 2016 nominated five senior girls as Prom Queen candidates. Students will have the chance to vote for who they want to win out of the nominated. On prom night, votes will be counted and the winner will be announced.
Maryssa Recio
Senior Maryssa Recio has been nominated as one of the 2016 prom queen candidates. Recio is involved in many activities at school.
“I play volleyball, I do track, I’m on the Red Rage Advisory Board, and I’m in Kay club,” she said.
When she’s not playing volleyball, Recio said she’s usually with her friends. After high school Recio said she plans on going to Neosho County Community College; however, her major is undecided.
“People can vote for me if they want, but you know, I’m just there to have a good time,” Recio said.
Tiffani Holman
Senior Tiffani Holman is another 2016 prom queen candidate. Holman is a part of Business Professionals of America, National Honors Society, Peer Helpers, Spanish Club, Chemistry Club and girls tennis.
Holman said she plans to go to college to continue her tennis career and study her major.
“[I’m attending] Collin College in Plano, Texas, to play tennis. I [also] want to be a veterinarian,” she said.
Holman also admitted to having a secret love: an alternative rock band.
“I’m a little obsessed with ‘The Killers’,” she said.
Jennifer McIntyre
Senior Jennifer McIntyre is also a 2016 prom queen nominee. McIntyre is involved in Peer Helpers, National Honors Society, Chemistry Club and previously played on the girls golf team. McIntyre said her free time is typically spent doing school work.
“In my free time I usually have a lot of homework, so that’s what I do, but a lot of the time I’ll just hang out with friends or just do nothing because sometimes that’s the best thing to do,” she said.
McIntyre said she plans on attending the University of Kansas (KU) after high school.
McIntyre also said she thinks her biggest competition this prom season will be one of her friends.
“I’m gonna say [my biggest competition is] Tiffani [Holman] because I love Tiffani and she’s just, like, the nicest person ever, so who wouldn’t want to vote for her?” she said.
Lauren Hills
Senior Lauren Hills is another one of this year’s prom queen candidates.
Hills is involved in Fellowship of Christian Athletes along with track.
“Most people may not know that I’m committed to Washburn for track and field,” Hills said.
Hills said she plans on going to Washburn University to major in Biology and Pre-Veterinary Studies.
“You could vote for me because I’m nice and funny, even though I’m going up against several of my friends,” Hills said.
HaLee Roland
HaLee Roland is the final 2016 prom queen candidate. Roland was unavailable for an interview.
