Blackboard is one of the main sources teachers use to file information and school assignments for students.

“The importance of Blackboard for our district is to have one place where everyone can go to get all of their information,” Blackboard administrator Jennifer Kern said.

It was primarily a website on the computer. If students could not access a computer at home, they could not use Blackboard.

Recently, a mobile Blackboard app has become available for download in the iTunes® application store, Android Market® and Blackberry AppWorld® for student access. After downloading the Blackboard Mobile™ Learn app, type “Maize” in the field provided. Then find  “Maize Unified School District” in the choices available. To log onto your personal account, type your student ID number and personal password into the login fields available.

The app version of Blackboard gives students the flexibility to use it at anytime they please. This means that students have the opportunity to check the assignments due for their individual courses no matter where they are.

Kern believes that that the app will be a great aspect to student’s and teacher’s academic lives.

“We just got the app because we are now on managed hosting, which means that the server for Blackboard is no longer here in the district but its cached by Blackboard,” Kern said. “That’s going to be a wonderful asset because everything is just automatically updated to the latest, greatest software.”
