Everybody has a story: Destiny Meeks

February 25, 2016

Editor’s note: This is a series of stories that will spotlight Maize students chosen at random. The idea comes from reporter Steve Hartman’s series formerly broadcast on CBS News.

For most students, juggling school and a job is hard. But imagine juggling school and two jobs. Junior Destiny Meeks does just this.

“I work at Maurices, it’s a clothing store, and also at Granite City, which is a restaurant. I only work at Granite City on Sundays now and Maurices I work like three or four days a week,” Meeks said.

Meeks said she has learned to manage her time to balance all three.

“It gets difficult with school. It’s all about planning and I have to make sure I keep tabs of what all I have going on so I can make sure to work it into my schedule,” Meeks said.

Meeks’s home-life has also been stressful, her family has had to overcome problems with drug abuse. Even though drug abuse is a tough problem, Meeks would still describe her family as open minded and caring.

“[I’m] probably about the same, I’m really open minded and non-judgmental,” Meeks said.

If Meeks were to have only 24 hours left to live, she would spend it traveling the world.

“I would try to go to as many places around the world as possible because there’s so many pretty places to see and things to do,” Meeks said. “I want to see everything.”
