People often say that they have the “craziest family in the world”. While relatives can sometimes be cause for chaos, however, they play a colossal role in everyone’s lives. Freshman Jayda Beltz has had to adjust to having a blended family since her mother’s remarriage.

“My parents have been divorced since I was 4 or 5, and I have two step-siblings from my mom’s remarriage,” Beltz said.

Beltz said she is grateful for her step-family since she doesn’t have a large extended family of her own.

“I don’t really know any of my biological family except for my mom and dad,” Beltz said. “So basically all I have is step family, but I’m really thankful for them.”

While Beltz’s father is not remarried, he has been in a serious relationship for a few years now. However, their recent breakup has been difficult to deal with, Beltz said.

“[My dad and his girlfriend] had been together for like three years, so I basically considered her my stepmom,” Beltz said. “[My dad’s girlfriend] put my dad through a lot… It’s been really stressful.”

Beltz said while it has been difficult to stay positive throughout this ordeal, she has a good support system and certain outlets to help her maintain a happy mindset.

“My small group [at Pathway Church] has helped me a lot. My mom and her family have also been really supportive through it all.” Beltz said.
