The last five years were the warmest on record

The World Meteorological Organization [WMO] said 2011-2015 is the warmest five years on record.
“It kind of furthers the point that we need to do something about it,” junior Bailey Tredway said. “I think it’s kind of ridiculous that people still refuse to see that it exists.”
Global warming is a controversial topic but science has proven that our planet is getting warmer gradually and we are starting to see the effects: storms are getting bigger and animals are migrating north.
“A lot of it is carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, which not only increases the temperature, but acidifies the oceans,” science teacher Jay Super said. “The combination of the temperatures and the acidity is starting to break down coral reefs, which are the rain forests of the sea.”
Global warming is starting to become the next generation’s problems. There are multiple ways we can start to help even though it may be frustrating in the beginning.
“It‘s almost overwhelming what one can do,” Super said. “I would say, pay attention to politics, read up on your science and read everything. Make yourself an informed citizen.”
