The Eagles are dealing with their first loss of the season after falling to Wichita Heights 57-50 in overtime Saturday at Koch Arena.
The loss dropped the Eagles from the top spot in the Class 5A rankings. They are No. 2 now, with Heights moving up to No. 1.
“We didn’t play our best, didn’t shoot like we usually do and really struggled rebounding, but we continued to play our hardest.” senior Jacob Schultz said.
Drake Spence led the Eagles with 17 points.
It was a close game throughout. The teams finished the fourth quarter tied at 41 before Heights pulled away in overtime.
“We had some players really step up and play some of their best basketball of the season, coach Chris grill said. “We need to continue to work on taking care of the ball, containing the dribble and rebounding.”
The Eagles return to action Thursday, playing host Dodge City in the Tournament of Champions. A win could set up a rematch with Heights on Friday.
