    Girls cross country placed second at Emporia on Saturday

    The cross country team traveled to Emporia on Saturday for their second meet of the season.

    The girls took second place overall as a team with junior Deidra Walker leading the way with a second place finish. Runners that also medaled is senior Sydney Roy in fifth, junior Kassidy Watkins in 17th, sophomore Nicole Goebel in 13th and freshman Lillian Hammond in 15th. The rest of the girls team placed in the top 26.

    “The team that beat us is ranked first in 5A and they’re probably the best team in the state,” cross country coach Skeeter Rankins said. “And thats as close that we’ve ever been to them.”

    For the boys, senior Jake Omo was the only in to medal, placing 13th. The boys took fifth overall at the meet.
