While some teachers are out coaching on the field, others inside rehearsing for performances.

Drama and theater teacher Kathleen Barbara recently received the Mary Jane Teall award.

Mary Jane Teall was a teacher at Wichita State and started up the Wichita Community Theater. Barbara describes Teall as “a force to be reckoned with.”

Teall passed away in a car crash and the community wanted to do something to recognize her. One teacher is chosen each year to receive the award.

“It always feels good to be recognized,” Barbara said.
