Cameron Bedell, a 2007 graduate, put on a mini concert for students during En-Cor Thurs.
Bedell, who made it to Hollywood Week of this season of “American Idol,” sang three songs and talked about his experiences in the music industry and on the hit television show.
Bedell lives in Nashville, where he went to college at Belmont. He is a song writer, producer and musician.
“I try to put my hands in everything I can,” he said.
Bedell said he doesn’t directly use his college degree, it put him in position to pursue his dreams.
“That degree allowed me to meet and be around some of the most incredible people,” he said.
The first song Bedell sang Thurs. was called “Open Roads,” which he wrote while still living here. He said the song recently was pitched to Rascal Flatts. The group decided to pass on the song.
“So I’ll keep it,” he said.
His second song was called “Just a Kid,” which he wrote as part of Project 48. He said Project 48 is when he and three friends lock themselves in a studio to write and produce as much music as possible in 48 hours.
“It’s a real cool new concept,” he said.
He closed his performance with “You are the Best Thing,” which he sang for his “Idol” audition.
Bedell is putting on a full concert tonight that is also featuring his friend and fellow musician, Keelan Donovan, as well as a performance from Wichita’s Flight Show Choir. The concert is in the auditorium and begins at 7:30 p.m.
