As most girls know, prom dresses are not the cheapest things to purchase. Depending on how expensive the perfect dress for prom is, saving up can take months. However, senior Susan Forgie along with a few friends, have been working to promote The Green Prom Movement which is an organization that makes it easier to buy an inexpensive and cute prom dress as well as donate old ones.
“The Green Prom Movement is basically a dress drive that provides dresses to girls who can’t afford prom [or pageant] dresses,” Forgie said.
Forgie and her friends found out that several of the girls they compete with have a difficult time purchasing inexpensive dresses.
“We found out a lot of girls that we did pageants with didn’t have a lot of dresses. They actually ended up getting their dresses through a sponsor, financial aid or whatever they needed to do to get a dress to compete,” Forgie said.
Forgie has received an award during one of her pageants since she began promoting The Green Prom Movement.
“I got the Spirit Award in Miss Kansas Teen USA pageant, because I promoted The Green Prom Movement there and because I also made an effort to go up to a woman’s home. Which we did this Sun. and we took the dresses to the women’s home and we got to help teenage girls pick out a dress for prom,” Forgie said.
