As of 2:00 p.m. Nov. 14, the school raised close to 5,800 items of food for the Caring Hearts Food Drive. The school’s original goal was 1,600 items. The food was to be donated to the Maize community for the holidays. Soup was the most popular food collected, with 3,500 cans. Meirowsky, Prater, Bergkamp, Frye, Rankins, Harlow, Mercado, Snyder and Nitcher are among some of the teachers whose classes helped collect food items.
One student in particular really helped with this food drive. Junior Emily Beaver sent a letter to her father’s work place that explained the food drive and who it was going towards and asked if they had any money or food they would like to donate. She raised $600 from that letter.
“You don’t have to have the connections that I did, just doing whatever you can to help raise money or food is always a good thing,” Beaver said.
