The Eagles won an overtime thriller Oct. 10 against Newton 42-41.
The Eagles scored on four consecutive drives to tie the game at 35, sending the game into overtime.
In overtime, Newton scored a touchdown but missed the extra point, taking the lead 41-35.
However Maize came back, completing a miraculous 4th and 25 touchdown pass from senior quarterback Connor Lungwitz to senior wide receiver Kendall Stewart to tie the game 41-41.
Junior Alan Sanchez nailed the extra point to give the Eagles the one point win over Newton.
“It felt good to finally convert,” said senior wide receiver Gabe Chavez. “We were in an overtime game last week against Hutch and lost so it feels good to finally win a close game.”
The Eagles next game is at 7 p.m. Oct. 17 at home against Bishop Carroll.
