A former Maize student who has made it past the first round on NBC’s “The Voice” made a surprise appearance Friday at Maize.
Kaleigh Glanton, a 2012 graduate, played three songs during an En-Cor assembly. Most students didn’t know the reason for the assembly ahead of time.
Glanton’s first song was one she wrote, “Stupid Love.” She followed that with Lorde’s hit “Royals” and then closed the performance with “Have You Ever Seen the Rain.” The final song, a Creedence Clearwater Revival hit, is the one she performed on “The Voice” during the qualifying rounds.
On the show, judges listen to performers with their backs turned. If they like what they hear, they turn around. All four judges — Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Usher and Shakira — turned around for Glanton. Levine was first, but she ended up picking Shelton.
“Just like he is on TV,” Glanton said when asked about Shelton’s personality.
