Freshman Kinslea Jones won the Class 5A State Golf Tournament Oct. 19 at Carey Park in Hutchinson.

She has won all 10 tournaments she competed in this season and said the state tournament was the most exciting. Jones also broke every school record, previously held by her older sister.

“My dad was the first person I saw, and he was super happy,” Jones said. “He was proud of me. My grandpa told me while we were waiting for the scores to be put up, that I deserved it and I put in the work for it and that’s what put me aside from other competitors.”

The Maize High girl’s golf team placed fifth overall in the 5A division. Jones’s average score for 18-hole tournaments sits at 70.6 with her highest score being 76 and her lowest being 64.

“She is the best golfer we’ve ever had,” golf coach Ben Harlow said. “It’s that simple. She’s had a remarkable, undefeated season.”
