On May 3 the art club held an art show called the Heartworks Ball where the art club members sold artwork that they made. Part of the proceeds went to a charity of their choice.

“The Heartworks Ball is a show for the art club students. The students that are in art club create artwork and then they sell that artwork at the Heartworks Ball,” Daniel Gegen, art, said. “Usually it’s based on a specific theme that they all vote on together and then after the Heartworks 40% of the proceeds goes toward a nonprofit organization.”

This year’s theme was Avant-Garde which means new, unusual, or experimental ideas. There were a variety of pieces submitted by the students.

“I did prints of originals. I did a painting of a galaxy and a few graphic drawings,” McKenna Karp, 11, said. “It took about two hours for the originals and three hours to print them out.”

Not all art club students were required to submit artwork. Six students submitted their artwork this year.

“I sold ten pieces but mainly they were mini sculptures,” Jessica Tran, 12, said. “It was what we learned how to do in Sculpture 1 it’s pretty much just like the clothes hanger wire cut up and morphed weird. Then we put pantyhose over it and painted it. Then the other thing I did was I painted bowls that I made out of clay.”
