The Maize High and Maize South Drama Departments will be having auditions for “It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play” Sept. 28-29th in the Maize South High School auditorium at 3:30 pm.

Any freshman to senior from Maize or Maize South High is eligible to audition.

“No prior experience needed,” President of Eagle Theatre Gavin Wright said. “Just come in, audition and then you’ll get placed where we think you’ll be most beneficial and can grow the most.”

To prepare for your auditions it is recommended to watch the film “It’s a Wonderful Life” or  get an understanding of the show. There is a PDF available upon request to drama teacher Kathleen Barbara if you have a certain character you’d like to audition for. You are not required to know the script or which character you’d like to audition for.

“You’ll come in and we usually read snippets of the script,” Wright said. “You’ll do some scenework with people. It’s just kind of seeing how you can do a cold read and what your intuitions will lead to.”

The play will be performed December 10-12.

“Right now we’re planning to either record it and livestream, or do it actually live,” Barbara said. “It just depends on where we are with everything, but right now we aren’t planning on [having] a live audience.”

The drama department will make sure auditions, rehearsals and performances are Coronavirus friendly.

“We are going to make everything super safe and socially distant,” Wright said. “Everything so you feel comfortable and not in harm’s way.”
